Guns and Munitions of War
Guns form part of your free checked baggage allowance.
If in excess of your checked baggage allowance, the normal excess
baggage rates will be charged. Sporting guns may be accepted for transportation as checked baggage, provided they are unloaded, dismantled,
and enclosed in a case. This type of gun must be carried in the
part of the aircraft not accessible to passengers.
Munitions of War are any weapon, ammunition or article containing an explosive or any noxious liquid gas or anything which is designed or made for use in warfare or against persons, including parts, whether components or accessories for such weapons, ammunition or article.
Passengers Authorised to Travel with Firearms
- Authorised firearm users desirous of travelling with firearms
and ammunition between the islands of Trinidad and Tobago only.
- Security escorts of the President, Prime Ministers and other
top government officials who are so entitled.
- Passengers transporting firearms and ammunition associated with
sporting or hunting events.
Other passengers desirous of transporting firearms
and ammunitions on board BWIA aircraft are to contact the BWee
Cargo division.
What documentation do I need to complete?
BWIA will require you to complete a Munition of War Acceptance Form
that is available at time of check-in. You will need to contact
your nearest customs office and inquire whether you require an import
or export licence. All documentation is the responsibility of the
passenger.
At check-in time, once authorised, you must surrender
your firearm(s) and make a written declaration on the acceptance
form for munitions of war on board BWIA aircraft, that the firearms
has been surrendered, and is safe for transportation.
Can it be checked in as hand luggage?
Guns and ammunition cannot form part of your carry-on luggage.
Sidearm / firearms will only be when unloaded and
suitably packed and when checked for carriage in baggage or other
compartment of the aircraft not accessible to the passenger.
Ammunition: cartridges (1.4s) for use with the sporting guns may be carried on BWIA aircraft provided they are properly packed in a safety container of wood, metal or fibreboard with the contents protected against shock or movement. The weight of the contents of each container must not exceed 5 kgs.
The following are considered weapons/dangerous articles and are not to be allowed on board any BWIA aircraft:
FIREARM, KNIVES, BLUDGEONS, EXPOLSIVES/AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES/INCENDIARIES, GASES & CHEMICAL AGENTS AND OTHER DANGEROUS ARTICLES.
